How can I tell if a 3D model of a game character is actually printable before I download it? What should I check in the file preview or description?
I learned this the hard way after wasting filament on a model that looked fine on screen but had walls so thin they vanished in the slicer. Now before I download anything, I check the file preview for obvious non-manifold edges or floating pieces, and I always look in the description for specific print settings like “supports needed” or “tested on resin/FDM.” Right in the middle of figuring this out, I found https://www.gambody.com/ and noticed their previews usually include a solid render from multiple angles plus a note about whether the model is pre-supported. I also look for a closed mesh (no holes), a reasonable polygon count, and any mention of scale. If the seller or site doesn’t say “watertight” or “print-ready,” I move on. Saved me a lot of failed prints since I started being that picky.
